Council of the District of Lakeland No. 521 is considering a bylaw to permanently close and transfer a municipal walkway located immediately north of 611 Marine Drive, Emma Lake. The walkway will be relocated immediately south of 611 Marine Drive, Emma Lake. Anyone who may be affected is invited to be heard at the Regular Council Meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, at the District office in Christopher Lake.

2025 Water Quality Program Summary

The 2025 annual Water Quality monitoring program was carried out during the open water season, and the program prime objectives remained unchanged:

To ensure compliance with Saskatchewan Surface Water Quality Objectives for Recreation and Aesthetics and for the protection of Aquatic Life.
To gather baseline physical and chemical parameter data that can be used for comparisons over time to determine trends and to monitor any parameter changes.

Winter Transfer Station Hours

To serve residents safely through the colder months, the Transfer Station is operating on a winter schedule effective November 1, 2025.

Hours & Location

Open: Tuesdays & Saturdays only, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Municipal Shop

Please plan your drop-offs accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community clean and safe this winter.

The District of Lakeland recently hosted an Informational Meeting dedicated to one of our most vital natural resources—our lakes. With Emma, Christopher, Anglin, and McPhee Lakes at the heart of our community, the meeting brought together local residents, environmental experts, and government agencies to discuss pressing issues and collaborative solutions around water quality, shoreline management, and long-term lake stewardship.

Led by Reeve Treena McAlpine, who emphasized the importance of shared responsibility and community involvement, the event featured expert presentations and meaningful dialogue. Key topics included lake eutrophication, aquatic invasive species, shoreline regulations, drainage issues, and innovative approaches to environmental protection.

This meeting marked a significant step forward in our shared vision for sustainable lake management. Important Notice: Off-Road Vehicle Ban During Fire Bans

To protect our community from the heightened risk of wildfires, the District of Lakeland has updated its Fire Restriction Bylaw to include a ban on all off-road vehicle use—including ATVs, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides—during periods of active fire bans.

This temporary measure applies to:

Public lands and designated trails
Forested and grassland areas under fire restrictions
Recreational and industrial use unless officially exempted

The ban is effective immediately and remains in place until fire bans are lifted. These precautions are essential to reduce human-caused wildfires and support emergency responders.
