From the District of Lakeland Council and Staff …

Staff and Council reports / discussion included:

  • A copy of the letter sent to Wapiti Regional Library as part of their submission to the Ministry of Education / Provincial Library & Literacy Office regarding the ‘Public Library Consultation’.
  • Notification that power to the Emma Lake transfer station office should be installed by the end of December.
  • Updates on encroachments, roads and parking in the areas of Neis Trail / Sunset Bay, Bell’s Beach replot, Guise Drive, Sunnyside Drive, and installation of a speed sign on Victoria Avenue in Murray Point subdivision.
  • Protective Services staff involvement with impaired driving check stop, and recent meetings with local representatives from the Citizens on Patrol (COPP) and the Rural Crime Watch programs.
  • First and Second reading of the proposed amendments of the Animal Control Bylaw.
  • Review of the 2019 Fire Services Agreement.
  • Appointment of Mary Sawchuk as an alternate member of the Property Maintenance Appeal Board.
  • Reports and information from the Waskesiu Wilderness Region annual general meeting, the Wapiti Regional Library semi-annual meeting, Christopher Lake Library Board meeting, Division 1 newsletter, Environmental Advisory Committee meeting and report, North Central SK Waste Management (recycle), North SK River Basin Council board meeting, Sasktip newsletter, SARM: Trespass Legislation media release.
  • 2019 Salary grids were adjusted for cost-of-living and approved, as well as the Administrator (CA0) salary effective January 1, 2019.
  • Requested the Administrator investigate and report to the January meeting, the impact of the CRA / Federal Government removal of the one-third exemption for Council indemnity payments.

Ratepayer concerns related primarily to snow removal, including thank yous to Public Works staff for their good work on the roads.

As mentioned in every update, while the contact information for Council Members is on the website and/or available through the District office, we encourage you to contact the District office if you have a concern or require municipal services so that it can be addressed in a timely manner. Saying thank you is always a good reason for a phone call as well, and greatly appreciated by our Staff and Council.
