Election is coming up fast! The Advanced Poll is this Saturday, August 22nd, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is made available to voters who:

  1. are physically disabled;
  2. have been appointed as election officials; or
  3. anticipate being unable to vote on the day of election.

The day of election is Saturday, August 29th, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Both will be held at the Christopher Lake Legion Hall, 120 Main Street West, Christopher Lake, SK.

Voter Eligibility

We follow the resort village election scheme. To vote in a resort village election in Saskatchewan, you must:

  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • be at least 18 years of age and one of the following:
    1. have lived in the resort village (or on land now in the resort village) for at least three consecutive months immediately before election day;
    2. be the assessed person with respect to property in the resort village (property now situated in the resort village, refer to Section 207 of The Municipalities Act) for at least three consecutive months immediately before election day; or
    3. be the spouse of an eligible voter mentioned in a or b.

To prove you are a resident of the District of Lakeland when you vote, you have the following options:

Option 1: One piece of government-issued photo ID that shows name and District of Lakeland civic address. Example: SGI-issued Driver’s Licence.

Option 2: Two pieces of ID that show the voter’s name and District of Lakeland address if not all contained in photo ID.

  • ID Examples: Health card, Driver’s Licence without DoL address, other government-issued ID;
  • Proof of Address Examples: Original copy of Tax Notice, Tax Receipt, Power bill, Energy bill, Insurance policy, etc. Must have name that matches other piece of ID.

Option 3: A qualified voter vouches for the person without ID by completing Form B – Vouching for Identity. Example: neighbor vouching for a neighbor

Note: Once a qualified voter vouches for another person, they cannot vouch for anyone else unless the person being vouched for lives at the same address and is a family member. Candidates, agents and election officials cannot vouch for anyone.

Candidates

Every eligible resident of the District of Lakeland is able to vote for the position of reeve, but you must be a resident of a division to vote for the council member of that division.

Reeve: Head of the council and is elected by the entire municipality.
