Our EAC (Environmental Advisory Committee) met on December 9th, 2017 in Council Chambers.

Terry Neefs has completed the executive summary of the District Environmental Management Plan. This summary has been given to Council to be used for future strategic planning for the District.( See attached a copy of the updated summary from Nov. 2017).

After rating the Environmental Plan the EAC would like to move forward with Council’s approval to develop an online environmental survey eg. (Survey monkey), proceed with more scientific research ( project with: Saskatchewan Polytechnic student followed by SENS), education of ratepayers with our web site /environmental pamphlets and revise the Management Plan. (Read executive summary comments: Terry/Wayne).

Discussion was held about a future project to take on with a Saskatchewan Polytechnic student and Sens (School of Environment and Sustainability) student. I will be contacting the U of S for information about a future project around water quality and Wayne Hyde has contacted Dave Halstead. ( Saskatchewan Polytechnic). If approved the Polytechnic student could begin doing some work for the District around the quality of our lake water this summer and further work could be done by SENS for 2019.

I have contacted the U of S (SENS) and they will provide a guest speaker to the District of Lakeland with Council approval around the topic of water quality. The cost to have a speaker come out would be mileage and a per diem. The other option is to have someone from WSA ( Water Security Agency) to address the Environmental Advisory Committee, Council and or ratepayers around the topic of water quality.

Our next EAC meeting will be held in Council Chambers on Saturday, February 10th, 2018.
